Ed was raised in the mountains of Virginia and graduated from the Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro. Upon graduation, he attended The Citadel in Charleston for a year before completing his degree at Mississippi State University.
He became a believer during his sophomore year at Mississippi State, and his call into Christian ministry became real and tangible. Upon graduation, he attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, and graduated with a Master of Christian Education in 1979 and a Master of Divinity in 1987. Concurrent with his seminary studies, he joined the 172nd Air Wing of the Mississippi Air National Guard as a First Lieutenant; he was a Medical Service Corps Operations Officer and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in May 2000.
He has served several churches during his ministry career, including First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, Mississippi; Highlands Presbyterian Church, Madison, Mississippi; and twice at Independent Presbyterian Church (1974–76 and 1997–present). He is the founder and coordinator of the United Kingdom Partnership, a network of PCA and EPC congregations facilitating indigenous church planting in the United Kingdom. He serves on the governing boards of Third Millennium Ministries and Third Millennium Seminary. Additionally, he is a Consultant Coach with McGowan Global Institute.
He has been married to his wife, Sally, for forty years. They have three grown children — Evan, Clarke, and Halley — and eight grandchildren.
